Maiori, the Amalfi Coast city along the Gulf of Salerno that has been an ocean front resort for more than 11 centuries.

The largest bathing beach on this stretch of Italy's Amalfi Coast, its storied history is of prominence and then conquest, victory to decimation, to be rebuild, to produce world-class silks and wools, to be battled over amongst the Italians, Spanish, and French. Today, as in 1903, it is a premier vacation resort of the Amalfi Coast. But charming old world fishermen inhabit Capone’s coastal Maiori, not the multi-storied hotels of today. Still, the prominence of often attacked and rebuilt defenses of Castle San Nicola de Thoro-Plano rise on the center ridge to the west edge of the city. The connecting roads run up the “Dragon’s Valley” to Ravello, or coastwise to Amalfi. These stretches of the Italian Riviera are widely recognized as some of the most beautiful and relaxing places in the world.
