Original Case with Makers Plate 102” L x 28” H x 22” W Framed

A massive ship model representing a large turbine oil tanker, it is fitting that this ship carries the name of the once President, CEO and Chairman of Standard Oil of Ohio, widely known as SOHIO, Charles E. Spahr. Truly an international effort, the turbine tanker was built for the Oswego Transportation Co. Of New York and Illinois in 1966 by the Kobe Shipyard & Engine Works, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kobe, Japan. The excellent metal hull and well detailed full model was built by the Kasai Model Shipyard of Osaka, Japan, with the model being a top example of its type in a nice large scale.

Built in 1966 for the Oswego Carriers, the CHARLES E. SPAHR owned a length of 727’9˝” with a 100’ beam, and 50’ depth. She is listed under a Monrovia, Libya registry for the American company’s interest. Oswego would be heavily involved with SOHIO’s and British Petroleum’s efforts in the Prudhoe Bay discovery of Alaskan oil on the pipeline that would be the crowning corporate act of Spahr’s career. He retired in 1977, the same year the first oil flowed through the pipeline that took eight years to build.

This extremely accurate model shows the complete ship. The funnel with the Oswego Company’s triskelion logo in white and blue, rising above the superstructure and the oil reservoirs that would enable the 28,630 Gross Ton tanker to carry 392,635 barrels when loaded. The deck detail begins at the rails and shows everything from the anchors to the search lights. The model is mounted in a wood framed glass case with both the ship builder’s plaque and the model builders plaque. It is an epic large model of an oil tankers named after one of the mostly widely and highly regarded American oilmen to ever do business.

Model was made by KASAI Model Shipyard, Osaka , Japan.
