William Boylhart was a widely recognized authority on the history of whaling and a passionate collector of maritime and whaling artifacts, and he kept detailed information folders on the objects in his collection.
This is an offer of one man's scholarly collection of maritime artifacts and art focused on all aspects of the whaling trade, which was collected, researched and documented over his lifetime. It is a superb assembly of more than 300 items that would enrich any collection.
Some notable objects in the collection are by scrimshander Edward Burdett, a scrimshaw artist known as the Bank Note Engraver, a 1834 dated piece by William Sizer, and other items such as a Whale Tooth Marionette, outstanding Pie Crimpers, Swifts, etc., several of which are illustrated in the Norman Flayderman book on scrimshaw as well as other related books.
Individual images have an associated lot number shown in each photograph to identify the specific piece in the collection.
We are presently soliciting offers for the entire collection or a significant portion thereof. Contact Gallery Director Joe Vallejo at 949.642.7945 to discuss the possibilities. We invite you to contact us with interest in any one specific item or several items as well.

William Boylhart was a true friend of ours and the gallery and is deeply missed.
