Long Bio :
Loy was an Italian port painter for more than fifteen years. He worked in the Gibralter region from 1865-67 and moved to Trieste afterward. This is the latest dated work uncovered so far of this artist. Painting ships from direct dockside commissions, his works ended up throughout Europe as the visiting and local captains took the works home. His finished canvases are known to exist within collections in Denmark, England and Germany, as well as his native country and in the Peabody Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. He obviously came to know the working of the various rigs, and is credited with a quality of detail that rivals the best known marine artists.
