Long Bio :	<p>The Belgian marine painter Egidius Linnig was born in Antwerp in 1821 to a family of German origin. He is noted as being the first Belgian artist to paint romantic marine views, and to create them with a strong concern for detail. His work was heavily influenced by the Dutch school as he studied under Dutch artists Jacques van Gingelen and Mathew van Bree.</p><p> Linnig worked mainly in oils, painting very cultivated marine views, river scenes and shipyard tableaus. Later he became accomplished in etching and was a major contributor to the renewal of the engraver's art in Belgium. His premature death in Antwerp at the age of 39 cut short this very promising young artist's career.</p>
