Long Bio :	<p>The prolific Roux family of French marine painters produced no less than six practitioners of ship portraiture. Working mainly in watercolor, the family produced throughout the 19th century an amazing output totaling over 7000 pictures.</p><p> Matheiu-Antoine Roux Jr. Was the third in the line of this family of ship painters. His style was considered vastly superior to many of the other Mediterranean port painters of the time. Working from the family's hydrographic office in Marseille, Antoine, Jr. Produced fine marine paintings for over half a century.</p><p> Early in this century, as marine research began to gain in importance, paintings by the Roux family began to emerge and were considered invaluable for their accurate depictions of 19th century shipping. The Roux family have since become identified as among the elite of the genre of traditional ship portraiture.</p>
