Long Bio :	<p>The elegance of Jasper Francis Cropsey's paintings emanates from his depictions of sharp, naturalistic details, use of striking colors and their well-measured mix of light, atmosphere and shadow. As an artist he is nearly synonymous with Autumn in the American Northeast, and is recognized alongside Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, and John Kensett as one of the most important and sought-after of the Hudson River School of landscape artists.</p><p> A pioneer of the American watercolor discipline and a trained architect, Cropsey blended skills from both in the completion of his luminous oil paintings. Widely traveled in Europe, his American scenes are the primary focus of an ever-expanded audience whom value his works. Seasonal sweeping landscape vistas are his dominate subjects, while myth and allegorical scenes exist as well. He painted several sets of the "Four Seasons", using Switzerland as his winter subject, and England, Italy and America to inspire spring, summer and fall, respectively. Interesting that European clients bought many of his American scenes, with their beautiful Autumn woods coloration that was unknown of it most of Europe.</p><p> Cropsey experience great levels of success in his lifetime career. He spent most of his life near his Hastings-on-Hudson home and studio, "Ever Rest", although he did live for a substantial period in England. He studied there under Frederick Church, and won the patronage of Queen Victoria with a Hudson-birthed autumn view. Today his home and studio are preserved for viewing by The Newington-Cropsey Foundation.</p><p><b>The Paintings of Jasper Francis Cropsey are Featured in a Majority of the World's Most Prestigious Collections of Fine American Art.</b></p>
