A complete model set before a original oil on canvas painted background showing Dover Castle and White Cliffs, this Red Funnel Line ship has a history of long reliable service. Based in Southampton, HER MAJESTY was built in 1885 and was of the era when the steam/sail ships were in full evolution, and still carries the square yards on her three masts. Long and sleek, she is shown bound across the English Channel for France. In this role she served the Red Funnel Line until 1940, when she was sunk in bombing raid at anchor in Southampton.
The model is set in a unique theater-style table-top glazed wood case and upon a texture rich ocean. Quite strong in detail and attention to proportions and composition, this complete display is a highly unusual and desirable diorama of an early passenger liner.
