Transfered to the Republic of China, Taiwanese Navy on July 6, 1972, the Sumner-Class Destroyer MADDOX was put into patrol and convoy service as the POYANG, hull designation DD-10, later adapted to DD-928 and finally DD-910 in 1979.
The destroyer measured 376 feet with a 40'4" beam over a 15'8" draft, capable of 34 knots, but best suited to a cruising speed of about 15 knots. The original warship hull was laid down in 1943 by the Bath Iron Works corporation in Maine, launched in March of 1944 and commissioned on June 2.
