About the artist: Award-winning artist Sam McDowell has studios in Carmel California and Bequia West Indies and now also represented by the Vallejo Gallery. A one-time art professer at Princeton, Mr. McDowell was indroduced to the art of scrimshaw by then Senator John F. Kennedy in 1955. Mr. McDowell is wildly regarded amoung the premier American scrimshanders and folk artists, and is the recipient of the coveted Peabody Fellowship. His work has been exhibited internationally and is found in the finest shop. He personally engraves each knife by hand with illustrations based upon his original designs.
About the knifes: The knives are designed by Sam Mcdowell and made exclusively for him in Seki City Japan by Kai Cutlery Company, the finest knife makers in the world and decendants of the Samurai sword makers . All knieves have surgical stainless steel blades with brass liners and nickle silver repousse boisters. The blades are decorated with an intricate tracery of filework.
