Hand painted delft tiles presented to the Union Marine Insurance Company Limited by the Rotterdam firm of M.Van Marle, at the 50th Jubilee Celebration held in Liverpool on 14th July 1913.
The original work is by Dutch artist J.D. van Velemeny, and shows the illustrious "White House", Belvedere Building of the famous Dutch city, with its commercial district beneath the hotel and penthouse restaurant. The first high-rise of the country, the White House was the prominent focus of the wharf district. At this early 20th Century point in time, steam is dominant and the residental building have commercial shops beneaths the multi-storied lofts.
The picture is composed of 20 individual 6 inch square tiles, and is signed lower left with the original Delft Tile Foundry mark.
