An artistically impressive model, this scale warship of H.M.S. PENELOPE was constructed by modeler P.S. Reed. It is in exacting 16' = 1" scale and complete with every fitting, including the mid-deck bi-plane.
PENELOPE was one of four Arethusa Class Cruiser built and used by the British Royal Navy. She launched in 1935 and was completed by November 13, 1936. She measured 154.23 meters in length with a slightly larger beam than 15.5 meters. Her standard crew would total 500. Capable of more than 32 knots, the lightly-armored cruiser carried 6 6" inch main bateries, 8 4 inch secondary guns, and 6 21 inch torpedo tubes. She served admirably as an escort to Malta during World War II, and served until sunk by torpedoes in 1944.
