This model was made by Bassett-Lowke of Northampton who had many commissions for the various shipbuilders and owners. ALBERTIC started life as a German ship but before she was launched she was given to the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company as part of WWI reparations. Royal Mail put her through a long fitting out and she made her maiden voyage in 1923 as the S.S. OHIO.
In 1927 the ship was transferred to the White Star Line and renamed ALBERTIC. This is when we believe this model was commissioned. In 1927 Bassett-Lowke was making builder's dockyard models and even if the model didn't bear their name on the plaque, their level of quality is present here. No doubt this model was made from the original plans for the vessel, and it's of the same high quality of the original dockyard of the OHIO which we had some years ago.
An excellent historic model of quality, the fact that this is a steamer of the White Star Line makes it even more rare.
