This figurehead of a woman holding a flower is an excellent example of carving and of the time in which it was made. There is great detail throughout particularly in her coiled hair and detailed dress. The original wood shows through some remnants of the original gesso for a good looking finish that reflect the age of the piece. The figure and dress speaks to the most desired silhouette of her period- the cinched, corseted waist similar to the young Queen Victoria, who would have been early in her reign around the time this was carved. Some of her facial features have been worn down over time, but this could be repaired by a conservator if desired.
