The Greek registered freighter GRANICOS was built by Duncan & Co. in 1919 at Port Glasgow, Scotland for Greek shipping magnate M. Embiricos of London for his Embiricos Shipping Line. Her name and hailing port of Athens is shown in cyrillic on the stern.
The 331 foot long GRANICOS had a 46 foot 6 inch beam and a depth of 26 feet 10 inches from her upper deck. The single screw steamer was driven by a triple expansion marine engine with bores of 25, 41 and 68 inches with a 45 inch stroke. She carried three boilers measuring 11 feet long with a 14 foot diameter each.
This model shows nice detail, including wood cargo hatch covers and nickel plated fittings throughout. The model features the Embiricos Line livery on the funnel and an excellent study of the cargo booms and their operating machinery..
Case dimensions: 60 Inches Long x 19 Inches High x 14 Inches Wide.
