WHEN LAUNCHED AT BARROW-IN-FURNESS BY VICKERS-ARMSTRONG IN 1969, BRITISH ADMIRAL HELD THE DISTINCTION OF BEING THE LARGEST TANKER EVER BUILT IN EUROPE. THE QUEEN HERSELF PRESIDED OVER THE LAUNCHING OF HULL #1069 WHICH FEATURED THE "ALL AFT" DESIGN CONCEPT SPECIFIED BY HER OWNERS, BRITISH PETROLEUM.

ALTHOUGH DWARFED BY TODAY'S MODERN SUPERTANKERS, BRITISH ADMIRAL HAD A GROSS TONNAGE OF 61,768 WITH A DEADWEIGHT OF 103,490 TONS. SHE MEASURED 917.5 FEET IN LENGTH AND A BEAM 125 FEET. FULLY LOADED SHE DREW 49 FEET OF WATER. HER STEAM TURBINES PRODUCED 25,000 HORSEPOWER TO DRIVE HER AT 15.5 KNOTS. HER HOME PORT WAS LONDON.

THIS MODEL FEATURES A CUTAWAY OF THE HULL SHOWING HER INTERIOR CONSTRUCTION AND ONE OF HER TEN 2,782 TON CAPACITY WING TANKS.
