This solid brass bell with clapper is from the oil tanker SHELL MEX 2 of the British Eagle Oil Company. The firm was later renamed Anglo-Saxon/Shell Tankers U.K. The 538 ton ship was made at the N.V. Scheepswerf Dordrecht Holland Shipyard and launched in 1915 under the name HERA for Nederlands Indische Tank Stoomboot Maatschappij or N.I.T.. In 1926 she was purchased by Eagle Oil and renamed the SHELL MEX 2, so this bell would have been made at the time she was renamed.

The ship's name is cast into the bell and the letters are highlighted in red paint. The bell features a stepped edge and has a nice tone when rung.

Photos of the ship as both HERA and SHELL MEX 2 are shown here for reference.
