"Published in 1968 by Frost and Reed Limited of Bristol and London England. Copyright in all countries including the U.S.A. (painted in England)." Built in 1867 by Robert Steele & Co., the LAHLOO made her maiden voyage of the 24th July. Under her captain John Smith, she took part in many of the great races between famous tea clippers in the exciting run between China and England. The LAHLOO was 191 feet in length with a registered tonnage of 779 tons and was particularly fast in light breezes. She made the fastest time of any clipper in 1869 by completing the return voyage from China in 97 days. |
