This dockyard model is among th emost elaborately detailed that we have ever offered. Built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd>, at the Nagasaki Shipyard & Engine Works, she was launched on Nov. 9, 1963. The Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line She served was founded in 1865 as an Oriental connection to Seattle and the railroads headed to Mid-West and East Coast markets.

The NYK line ship measured 528 ¼ feet in length, 75 ½ feet beam and a depth of 42 feet. Powered by a Mitsubishi diesel, she could reach 22.45 knots. With a gross maximum weight of 10467 tons, she would ride more than ¾ of her hull below the water.

This attractive model shows the pride the shipyard modelers took in their representative works. The cast hardware is gold-plated throughout with all the machinery represented. Note the presence of only two life boats; by this period the number of crew required to run the vessels had inversely decreased in comparison to the ever-increasing size of the ships.
