Oil on Canvas
25 x 30 Inches
Signed LL: Maurice Braun

Circa 1925

Braun’s interplay of outdoor light and color earned him a glowing reputation as one of the brightest stars of California’s evolving plein air movement. This work adds to that legacy the subtle reflective qualities of water and Braun’s talent at expressively capturing the ever changing moods of nature.

Showing one of the numerous San Diego backwaters (believed to be an area near the Kettenberg Ship Yard on Shelter Island) this painting is filled with a soft marine ambience and fidelity to the area’s character. Trademark California bungalows line the shore as a working schooner emerges from behind a two story boathouse that has long since faded into the harbor’s history.
