Gaetano Capone, Jr. (fl.1895-1935)

Italian-American

Gaetano Capone practiced in his artistic passion in Italy, and after studying with Palizzi and Moretti in Naples, he sailed through the Mediterranean and northward across the Atlantic in 1883. The very next year, he exhibited his first American painting in the National Academy of Design and never looked back. Primarily a landscape artist, he also excelled at narrative portraiture and painted some coastal seascapes as well.

His son, Gaetano Capone, Jr. is also an artist, and while it is known he painted scenes in Italy, it is believed he also worked in New York.
