This early sea service pistol features a 12 inch barrel set into a walnut stock, 62 caliber with smooth bore. The lockplate features Tower, Crown and GR marks along with a smaller crown mark over a 2. The gun’s lock operates properly. The barrel features the proof mark of Birmingham, though that may not be the city of origin as old guns were often proofed multiple times.
There are brass accents throughout including a plate with the initials W.E.D.C. 1818 on one side. Although it is marked with the date 1818, that is a later marking. The gun was made circa 1770 and likely continued to be used and marked through later conflicts and naval service.
