Circa 1860

A beautiful Rosewood instrument with the glass-tube weather gauge running vertically inside the carved twist body, and the secondary mercury thermometer measuring both fahrenheit and in the boxed presentation beneath the adjustment dials.

The ivory scales are topped with the maker’s identification, reading as “J. Sewill, 61 South Castle St. Liverpool & 50 Cornhill, Royal Exchange, London. Maker to the Admiralty.”
