In a work that records the ever changing beauty of the Southern California coastline, Maurice Braun used his strong composition skills and talent for soft coloration to capture a view still familiar to visitors of the picturesque seaside village of La Jolla. Looking north from La Jolla cove, the timeless shoreline is recognizable in it’s still pristine state.

Braun’s interplay of outdoor light and color earned him a glowing reputation as one of the brightest stars of the evolving School of California Plein Air Painters. This work was inspired by Braun’s fascination with the deep blues of the Southern California ocean playing against the rugged coastal rock formations.
