Helmets Made 1880-1920

We’ve never seen a copy of the Three Light, 12 bolt Heinke helmet, but can’t say with certainty that this is a period Heinke. This helmet including the air intake and exhaust appears functional and all the elements are present but it seems as if it has never been used. If it’s a copy it is one of the best we’ve seen to date and is of the same quality as an original of this type of dive helmet. The helmet is copper with a plating of zinc or tin. Helmets of this type were made circa 1880-1920’s.

Marked with number #3537 on the helmet and the breastplate. The breastplate is marked C.E. Heinke & Co. and the brail reads, “C.E. Heinke & Co., Submarine Engineers, London S.E.” as well as markings for front and back. Other markings on the air intake and exhaust read C.E. Heinke & Co’s Patent”
