14 1/2 inches long, 5/8 inch bore

Circa 1770

This Revolutionary War period flintlock pistol was made by Thomas Ketland, Sr. a successful firearms maker who was in business under this name from around 1760. He began to export weapons in 1790. The name Ketland continued as W. Ketland under his son and under Ketland and Walker with a later partner, though Thomas Sr. died in 1816.

Signed on the lockplate T. Ketland & Co. with clear Birmingham proof marks which may be a later proofing of this weapon. The gun includes brass details and engraved floral elements and flourishes. There is wear to the gun consistent with use but the marks are clear and it is in good condition. A fine quality early flintlock pistol by a top maker of British guns.
