Circa 1860

By American Maker C.C. Brand of Connecticut, this No. 3 Brand Should Gun has a large 1 1/4 inch bore, and would have been used to fire bomb Brand’s largest size bomb lances for the shoulder guns, the principle instrument of the whaling hunt after 1855. This particular gun comes not only with an original period lance, but with its original instructional use paperwork as well, set in a small display frame. A classic fisheries instrument from the 19th century.
